Club Collar Dress Shirts

Known also as the Eton, Golf (Brooks Brothers), and Small Spread Collar, the history of the Club Collar dates back to the 1850's. At that time England's Eton College decided to update their school uniform dress code. Little did they know, their rounded dress shirt collar points would become such a tremendous hit. The style was associated with the exclusive college and a new trend began, giving way to the "club" collar.

The rounded club collar is similar in terms of construction and style to the forward point collar, with the difference being the rounded collar points. The club collar reached its peak popularity at some point in the 30's but has rode a wave of nostalgia and prominence as of late. You're likely to see it today on timepiece dramas Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men. Many designers have now begun to offer variations of the collar, some with more arch and curvature of the points than others.

One rule of thumb: the club collar tends to favors those with a slim, narrow shaped face. If you have a rounder, fuller shape, a club collar will pronounce this feature more so.

Deo Veritas offers Club Collar Dress Shirts (known on our site as the Small Spread Collar) as one of 6 collar options available when designing a custom dress shirt.
